In an audacious crime, two men from London journeyed for hours to set fire to a beloved Welsh water company, Ty Nant, renowned for its distinctive blue bottles. The blaze, which erupted on the evening of June 17th in Bethania, Ceredigion, caused extensive damage and cost the company a staggering £600,000.

Thanks to a swift investigation by local police and fire services, 34-year-old Darryl Kinnear and 22-year-old Peter Silva were identified as the culprits. Both confessed to committing arson with recklessness towards endangering lives. As a result, they were each jailed for four years.

Detective Inspector Leon Lewis emphasised the seriousness of the crime, praising his team for securing justice. He stated, “This was a reckless and dangerous act that could have easily led to serious injury or loss of life. We will do everything in our power to catch and convict criminals that travel into our communities to commit crime.”

In addition to the arson, Kinnear faces an extra 12-month sentence for dangerous driving in London, bringing his total sentence to five years.
