Ryan Liam Morgan, a teenager described lovingly by his family, lost his life after the Peugeot van he was travelling in left the M6 carriageway between junctions 33 and 34, just south of Lancaster. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after 12:15pm on Easter Sunday. Despite their efforts, Ryan was pronounced dead at the location, having suffered fatal injuries.

Ryan’s father, 31-year-old Daniel Burba, was behind the wheel of the van at the time of the incident. He was also seriously injured and required hospital treatment. Fortunately, he has since been discharged from medical care, but now faces multiple charges related to the crash.

Lancashire Police confirmed that Mr Burba has been officially charged with causing death by dangerous driving. In addition, he faces charges of causing death while driving without a valid licence and while uninsured, which heightens the seriousness of the matter. On Monday, 28 April, Burba made a preliminary appearance at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court but is yet to enter a formal plea on the charges levied against him.

A spokesperson on behalf of Lancashire Police offered their condolences, saying: “Our thoughts remain with Ryan’s loved ones at this difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.” The force is continuing to appeal for information from the public as their investigation remains ongoing, requesting that any dashcam footage or eyewitness accounts be shared to assist their enquiries.

In a heartfelt tribute, Ryan’s family painted a picture of a kind and generous young man with an infectious sense of humour. “Ryan, our precious boy. There truly is no one like our Ryan, such a beautiful soul and so far from typical. Words can’t express how much we have loved and cherished him and how much we always will,” the family statement reads. They reflected fondly on his loving nature: “He was always making his little sisters giggle or giving them cuddles when they were sad. Every time he had pocket money, he would go to the shop and buy everyone else treats and forget himself.”

Ryan’s mother, Kim, spoke movingly of her devastating loss. “Ryan Liam was the most perfect precious little boy you would ever see, and he grew to be more beautiful every day. He was the most amazing son to Kim and brother to Primrose and Summer and we will miss him as long as we live,” she shared. “Our hearts have a hole that will never heal, and we can’t express enough the devastation this has caused our family. We are eternally heartbroken. RIP our perfect beautiful Ryan Liam.”

The case is set to progress further with Daniel Burba due to appear at Preston Crown Court on 27 May for a plea and trial preparation hearing. Until that time, both the legal process and police investigation will continue.

Authorities are urging anyone with information relating to the collision, or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, to come forward to assist the inquiry. The public can contact police by calling 101, quoting log 0503 of April 20, or by emailing the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at [email protected].

The events of that day have left one family forever changed, and raised stark questions about road safety and responsibility. As the legal process unfolds, the community’s focus remains on supporting those affected and remembering Ryan Liam Morgan – a cherished son, brother, and friend.
