๐๐๏ธ Sandy Bay in Porthcawl faced a tide of trash after this year’s hottest day had locals basking in sunshine and fireworks. But unfortunately, some left more than footprints behind! Over 400kg of rubbish, including cans, bottles, and even BBQs, carpeted the beach โ all cleared away thanks to 30 amazing volunteers from Porthcawl Wombles. ๐ฟ

This dedicated group of locals sprang into action early Wednesday, tackling the mammoth task of clearing trash before it could be swept out to sea. They’ve been waging this war on waste for weeks now, and the latest haul was their biggest yet, highlighting the impact sunny days have on litter levels.

Dan Alexander, a regular beachgoer, described Tuesday’s scene as “rancid,” with litter lining the shore and children playing among the mess. He noted how different the scene was compared to cleaner spots like Pembrey, saying, “It’s infuriating. Worst Iโve seen it since weโve been coming here.”
Natasha, part of this heroic litter-busting crew, said, “We just want people to take responsibility for their rubbish.” With crowds bolstered by an evening fireworks display, itโs a reminder that fun in the sun doesn’t mean leaving your trash in the sand. โ๏ธ๐
