🏠 The famous ‘saddest ever’ Grand Designs home has finally sold after 12 long years! Edward Short’s lighthouse-inspired dream house in Croyde, Devon, became infamous when his ambitious project spiralled into a financial and emotional rollercoaster. Despite a £7m debt and his marriage coming to an end, Edward’s resilience kept the dream alive.

Originally intended to be an art deco masterpiece with an infinity pool, the house’s construction faced countless setbacks and was featured in a heart-wrenching 2019 episode of Grand Designs. Fans have eagerly followed this saga, since it was first listed at a sky-high £10m, only for hopes to fade when a mystery buyer pulled out.

But now, after re-entering the market at £5.25m, Chesil Cliff House has found a new owner. Edward expressed relief at turning this page, humourously adding that he still buys lottery tickets hoping to return one day. And though the project exacted a heavy toll, Edward cherishes the incredible memories of its construction as some of the best times of his life.
Local chatter once linked potential buyers like Harry Styles and Michael Jackson’s former bodyguard, Matt Fiddes, but eventually, another buyer clinched the deal. As the house changes hands, it’s a bittersweet farewell for Edward, who remains proud of his perseverance and ultimate achievement. 🎉
Here’s to new beginnings and the end of a remarkable chapter! 🏡✨
