🚨 **Allergy Alert!** 🚨 Two Swansea takeaways have landed in hot water after serving dishes with allergens despite clear warnings from customers. Shahin Tandoori and Indian Spice both dished out prawn cocktails containing egg—even after undercover officers highlighted their allergy risk.

Egg allergies can cause severe reactions, and this oversight could have been perilous. Following the case, Swansea Council is urging food businesses to step up their game in allergen awareness and customer safety.

Swansea Magistrates’ Court heard that the undercover trading standards team specifically asked if their meals contained egg, and yet, they weren’t informed of its presence. Both takeaway owners admitted to breaking food safety regulations. Consequently, Zalil Ahmed from Indian Spice and Shahin Ahmed from Shahin Tandoori faced fines and additional costs.
David Hopkins from Swansea Council stressed the importance of food businesses being fully aware of allergens to ensure consumer safety. The council offers resources on 14 critical allergens, including nuts, milk, and fish, to help businesses meet safety standards.
With around two million folks in the UK dealing with food allergies, it’s vital that these warnings are taken seriously. Let’s hope this sends a clear message to other eateries to prioritise customer safety or face the consequences. 🥡🔍
