Disturbing Discovery: Adolescent Found with Graphic Child Abuse Photos, Including Infants

A shocking case has emerged involving an 18-year-old from Cardiff, who possessed and distributed disturbingly indecent images of children, including babies. Owain Hammett, who was still a teenager when police discovered the vile images on his phone, admitted to sharing them in sinister online conversations. During a police raid at his residence, authorities found unthinkable content on his devices, sparking outrage.

The court heard that a Snapchat-uploaded image prompted their investigation, with Hammett later found guilty of possessing and distributing these appalling images. Despite his young age and no prior convictions, the evidence against him was overwhelming. He shockingly asked in conversations, “How young do you want?” when discussing available images.

Hammett, now a university student in Chester, has been working with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and completing various courses since his arrest. His background was described by representation in court as respectful and he now faces strict internet restrictions by his family.

Judge Shomon Khan, upon sentencing, expressed immense disgust at the contents found, specifically noting a chilling image of a baby being abused. Despite his young age, the judge made it clear that the gravity of the offences could have warranted imprisonment had he been an adult. Instead, Hammett received an 18-month community order, including 80 hours of unpaid work and a 25-day rehabilitation requirement. He must also cover £150 in costs, all while grappling with the full impact of his heinous actions on real children’s lives.
