Big news for millions relying on Personal Independence Payments (PIP) in the UK! π The government is giving us an inside look at a potentially transformative review that could change how PIP is administered. This review, led by Stephen Timms and his co-chairs, is all about ensuring that PIP is fair and truly meets the needs of those who depend on it. π§

Launched last October, the Timms Review came about after major backlash to proposed PIP eligibility changes that could have affected over a million people. So far, they’ve promised no changes until the review wraps up to protect current beneficiaries. π

The latest update reveals that the review team is prioritising the ‘lived experience’ of disabled people, making sure their voices are heard loud and clear.π¬ A steering group of 12 individuals, handpicked from over 340 applicants, is being formed to guide this process, ensuring diverse perspectives are included. This group, along with an external partner, will help shape the review’s direction. π
The co-chairs have highlighted their commitment to co-producing this review with disabled people, their families, carers, and organisations, offering a voice to those who know PIP best. They’ll be reporting their findings to the Secretary of State by autumn 2026, aiming to create a system thatβs both just and forward-thinking. π
As much as this is about policy, it’s about real lives and aspirations being acknowledged and supported. Keep an eye out for the next update where we’ll meet the steering group members for the first time! π
Let’s hope this leader review brings a brighter future for all those who rely on PIP. π
