An emotional farewell for Welsh football legend Terry Yorath left many in tears at his funeral this week. Gabby Logan’s daughter, Lois, brought the congregation to a standstill with a heartfelt rendition of “Jerusalem,” fulfilling a special request from her grandfather before he passed away at 75. The service, held at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Leeds, was attended by notable figures from the football and television worlds who came to pay their respects.
Heartwarming tributes flowed throughout the ceremony. Yorath’s son-in-law, Kenny, and grandson, Reuben, were among those who carried the icon’s coffin, while his son Jordan delivered a touching final eulogy, describing Terry as a “funny, kind, humble, and proud man.” The service also included poignant moments of remembrance for Terry’s son, Daniel, who tragically passed away at just 15. Daniel’s memory was honoured with the Welsh male voice choir, Côr Meibion Taf, singing “Danny Boy.”
As the service concluded, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” resonated through the church as Yorath’s coffin was carried out, marking the end of a deeply moving ceremony. Among the attendees were past Wales internationals like Chris Coleman and Ian Rush, and football personalities such as Chris Kamara and Stuart McCall. It was a gathering that mirrored the respect and love garnered by a man whose life was deeply intertwined with football and family.
