π€ Shop Worker Swindles Spar with Stolen Scratch Cards! π€

In a twist straight out of a heist movie, Odin Parry, a long-time employee at the Spar store in Aberystwyth, pulled off a cunning scheme that saw him pocket a staggering Β£34,000 through stolen scratch cards! π«π·

Odin, who had been with the Terrace Road store since 2015, was eventually caught by his colleagues after leaving a trail of used scratch cards by the till. π€ Fellow staff had become suspicious of his “protective” behaviour around the till, often sending junior staff on errands far from his station. One witness even spotted him scratching cards in his car. π
After discovering the discarded cards, Spar managers dove into the CCTV footage and found solid evidence of his theft from November 2023 to June 2024. πΉ Confronted with the footage, Odin had to admit: “Well I canβt deny it now, can I?”
Odin was arrested, charged with theft and fraud, and described his behaviour as “stupid”, claiming he intended to repay Spar eventually. Despite pocketing huge sums, the court heard there was no evidence of fancy spending. Instead, financial stress and underlying issues seemed to play a role in his actions. π
Ian Ibrahim, Odinβs lawyer, described his client as “not criminally minded” and highlighted that Odin had been cooperative and had admitted to his actions promptly. With no previous convictions and deep shame over his actions, the court considered his personal struggles, including anxiety and depression. π
The court sentenced Parry to a 16-month sentence, suspended for a year, and he must complete 150 hours of unpaid work. π§
