Heads up, UK travellers! If you’re heading back home from a European getaway, be extra cautious with what you pack. Starting this October half-term, new rules ban bringing certain foods from the EU into the UK, including favourites like sandwiches, cheese, and cured meats. Even if you’ve picked them up at duty-free, these items are now a no-go due to a recent foot and mouth disease outbreak across Europe.

Officials warn that if you’re caught with these items, you could face fines of up to £5,000. The banned list covers all cheeses, meat products, dairy items, baked goods, and salads.
These changes come as the new ‘entry/exit’ system kicks off on October 12. It demands more information from travellers heading to Europe—like fingerprints and possibly proof of travel insurance. So, whether it’s brie from France or prosciutto from Italy, it must stay behind.

Travel expert Jane Bolton advises: “Think twice about bringing that local delicacy home, even if it’s sealed and from duty-free. It’s just not worth the risk.”
In short: finish those snacks before you land or be prepared to say goodbye to them at customs. If in doubt, check the UK government’s guidelines before you jet off! Keep this in mind to avoid any travel hiccups and enjoy a stress-free return home. Safe travels! ✈️🌍
