In a heart-wrenching case that highlights both the devastation and resilience of those affected, 39-year-old David Prothero has been sentenced to 10-and-a-half years in prison for the sexual and physical abuse of four children. The former carpenter, whose crimes came to light after a brave victim spoke out, has been condemned for his “inexcusable” actions.
His offences include horrific acts such as sexual assault and oral rape, impacting young lives in ways unimaginable. Prothero, from Tumble, Carmarthenshire, attempted to blame his actions on substance abuse, but the court was clear that nothing could excuse such behaviour. Judge Huw Rees stressed that the long-term impacts on the victims and their families are likely to be severe.

He will remain a registered sex offender and is under indefinite sexual harm prevention orders to restrict his access to children. He also faces lifelong restraining orders to prevent him from contacting his victims.
