Exciting times for South Wales! A brand-new town is on the horizon next to the M4, and it’s just crossed a major milestone. The ambitious Llanilid development near Llanharan in Rhondda Cynon Taf is set to transform a former coal mining site into a bustling community. We’ve just witnessed the approval of phases five to eight, bringing 543 new homes closer to reality.

This massive project promises around 1,850 homes, a new school, and a vibrant town centre, all spread across what used to be a dusty excavation site. The groundwork began in 2016, with each phase meticulously greenlit by local councillors. The initial buzz started with the approval of 216 homes in 2019, and now the ball is truly rolling.

What can locals expect? The development phases promise a mix of two to five-bedroom homes, with a substantial portion made affordable. Plus, thereโs a brand-new Welsh medium primary school lined up to meet the growing demand, transforming Dolau Primary into an English medium school and expanding its capacity.
Construction hiccups like badger setts may have thrown some curveballs, but the project’s spirit remains unshaken. Natural Resources Wales has worked closely with developers, ensuring wildlife is respected while our future plans unfold. By 2026, the school site will be ready for further magic, hopefully opening its doors by 2027.
Keep your eyes peeled for even more future updates as Llanilid edges towards becoming the latest and most significant mixed-use development in South Wales. What a transformation awaiting this pocket of the Valleys! ๐๏ธ๐ณ๐
