A new report has given us the lowdown on how our spending habits looked in 2025, and it’s all about sharing the costs! Last year saw folks around the globe using tricount to split a staggering £20.2 billion, with the UK alone contributing £1.16 billion. Talk about teamwork!

In the UK, food and transport topped the list of shared expenses, with each category hitting around the £20 million mark. Whether it’s a cheeky takeaway or splitting the fare on a shared ride, these moments have become the backbone of our social outings. But when it comes to the big-ticket items, travel takes the crown. Us Brits are forking out an average of £234.39 per travel encounter, making those holidays and trips the most significant shared splurge. Rent and utilities also made a hefty dent, with an average split of £219.50, while transport was a more modest £72 per expense.

Spring and summer were particularly busy for cost-sharing, thanks to holiday plans, festivals, and all the fun stuff that comes with warmer weather. In fact, the UK’s busiest day for creating ‘tricounts’ (those handy shared expense accounts) was the 1st of May, followed closely by the 1st and 9th of August. Looks like we love a bit of summer spending!

According to Joe Wilson at bunq, “Year after year, we see the same thing: people want to enjoy moments with those they love and not stress over who owes what.” And let’s face it, that’s what it’s all about—creating memories without the money hassle. So, here’s to another year of shared experiences, from pub nights and trips to shared homes and beyond! 👫🌍💷
