More than 20 years after her release from prison, Maxine Carr has once again stirred public debate with a bold Christmas request. Known for providing a false alibi for Ian Huntley, the infamous killer of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, Carr now lives under a new identity with lifelong anonymity.
Reports reveal Carr sought state funding to cover a festive celebration, including food, decorations, and even a Santa outfit. Claiming difficulty in finding steady work, she argued the state owed her a “duty of care” to ensure a “happy and stress-free” Christmas.
Since her release, Carr has reportedly received extensive police protection, costing taxpayers millions, along with funding for dental and cosmetic procedures. Allegedly, she also received past Christmas bonuses worth ÂŁ1,000.
Carr now resides in a coastal town with her husband and son, shielded by a High Court order. Her 2014 wedding, held in secret, featured a ÂŁ2,000 ceremony described as lavish. Sources claim Carr’s husband is fully aware of her past and remains “absolutely besotted.”

The tragic disappearance of Holly and Jessica in 2002 triggered a massive search across the nation. Both Carr and Huntley participated publicly in the search efforts, with Carr later admitting to lying to police about Huntley’s whereabouts on the day the girls vanished.
Though Carr was found guilty of perverting the course of justice, she served only 21 months of a 42-month sentence before her 2004 release.
