The fight for justice continues for the Bloody Sunday families as they vow to press on after a former soldier was acquitted of murder. Outside Belfast Crown Court, the McKinney family, standing strong with supporters, expressed a deep sense of pride for taking their battle “to the wire.” Soldier F was found not guilty of the murders of William McKinney and James Wray, alongside other charges stemming from the tragic 1972 events in Londonderry.
Mickey McKinney, brother of victim William, passionately addressed the media, stating that justice still eludes them due to failures by the British state. He emphasised that the injustice stems from the lack of proper investigation by the RUC and the British Army’s protection of its own.
“This isn’t over,” declared McKinney, asserting their relentless pursuit of justice. “It’s a big one, and we took them to the wire.”
Ciaran Shiels, solicitor for some of the families, echoed the sentiment, highlighting that there’s no right of appeal but a review of potential perjury by Soldier H is awaited. The push for prosecution remains strong, with hopes of swift action.
