Known in the community for his love of bikes—whether riding his childhood Raleigh Grifter or later, his red Honda scrambler—Mr Brown was described as fearless and adventurous. His family fondly recalled stories of him daring to out-jump his friends on off-road trails and energetically racing around the local gravel pits. They also reminisced about his remarkable practical skills, recounting how, at just seven years old, he took apart and successfully repaired a faulty lawnmower.

Despite not being particularly academically inclined, Mr Brown was resourceful and passionate about working with his hands. From an early age, he involved himself in the family’s greengrocers shops in Northampton and Towcester, where his skilful salad displays and cheeky practical jokes became the stuff of local legend.

Brother Andrew Brown shared his own memories, remembering Robert as “confident and daring” and reminiscing about their shared holidays and Mr Brown’s light-hearted, memorable contributions as best man at his wedding. “He could talk to anyone… everyone loved him,” Andrew remarked.

The sense of loss was echoed by Mr Brown’s children and grandchildren, who said their father’s warmth and lively personality touched many. “Our hearts are broken, but everyone’s kind words bring comfort and show how much of an impact our dad had. His cheeky smile will be terribly missed,” they shared.

Robert’s partner Julia recalled their long history, noting his ability to bring joy and laughter into her life. “He was the school heartthrob… Being with Robert there was never a dull moment. You may be gone, but your love, kindness, and spirit will live on in me.”

Detective Inspector Torie Harrison, leading the investigation for Northamptonshire Police, assured the public that the inquiry remains active. She expressed gratitude to those who have already spoken to police and encouraged anyone who may have information to come forward. “We are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry and are keen to hear from anyone who travelled the canal and river routes around the time of the incident,” DI Harrison said.

The community continues to come together in mourning, highlighting the lasting impact Mr Brown had on those who knew him. While police maintain their presence in the area, specially trained officers support the grieving family as they seek answers and justice for their loved one.
