After 16 days in a coma at Kings Mill Hospital, Aaron’s story is both a scary reminder and a life lesson. Despite being usually healthy, Aaron hadn’t been vaccinated against the flu and had never experienced serious illness before. But this time, things were different. Already on a ventilator and dialysis, he narrowly escaped death.

Aaron’s now a massive advocate for the flu jab and urges everyone to get vaccinated. “One of the first things I remember when I came round was a doctor telling me, ‘Well done, we don’t have many people come back from as far as you did’,” he recalls. Talk about a wake-up call! 📢

His ordeal shook family and friends to the core—how could flu lead to four months of being out of action? It all started with cold-like symptoms in December. A quick trip to the GP due to an unexpected low blood oxygen level of 72% was what saved his life.

Ward leader Phaedra Kay, who looked after Aaron, said, “He was very seriously ill. Normally healthy, he developed a severe flu, life-threatening for some.” And Dr Mark Roberts added that the flu vaccine is your best defence, reducing risk and severity if you catch the virus.

Flu vaccines are free for those most at risk, including older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions. Available at GP surgeries, pharmacies, and schools, they could be your best defence this flu season. 💉

Let’s learn from Aaron’s story and protect ourselves and our loved ones. Stay healthy out there! 🌟
