Gwenno and Luke, a devoted couple from Cardiff, faced the unimaginable heartbreak of losing their son, Emrys, just eight days after his premature birth. After conquering a long IVF journey, Emrys came into their lives on March 6, 2024, only to face serious health challenges. Born at just 25 weeks and weighing 804 grams, Emrys spent his short life in the NICU. Doctors discovered a bleed on his brain, and despite their best efforts, Emrys’ tiny body couldn’t recover. π
But amidst the sorrow, there was a tender moment of solace. Thanks to the compassionate team at Ty Hafan hospice, Gwenno and Luke were given the precious opportunity to take Emrys on one last journey. Heading to Criccieth, a place close to their hearts, they made it a peaceful farewell road trip with Emrys snuggled in his basket, Gwenno by his side, Luke driving, and their dog, Waldo, riding upfront. ππΎ
“We talked to Emrys the whole way, sharing our stories,” said Luke. “It was just a whole feeling of peace. We werenβt in a clinical environment anymore, and Emrys was going somewhere safe to rest.”
π Gwenno lovingly described Emrys as a perfect mix of both parents. “He had Lukeβs eyes, my dark features, and Lukeβs long legs. He was just gorgeous in every single way.”
The journey brought a bit of normalcy and helped them process their grief. A heartfelt service followed in Criccieth, where the sound of the sea comforts them and Emrys’ memory is cherished by his grandparents who watch over him. πβ€οΈπΏ
