Meet Russ, a social media newbie, who shares his kooky cross-cultural experiences online. In one of his latest videos, Russ sheds light on something many visiting Americans might overlook – restaurant manners! Imagine this: Russ was out dining at his favourite Italian place with his girlfriend. Everything was going swimmingly until he noticed the server giving him strange looks. 🤨

Russ admits, “I thought I had manners! The waitress asked what we’d like to drink, and I simply said, ‘We’ll have some water.’ My girlfriend looked at me funny, but I shrugged it off.” Things took a turn when he ordered his food and, later, the bill, all without a “please” or “thank you.” Yikes! 😬 His girlfriend later pointed out how this came across as downright rude.

He realised that in the US, it’s common to skip these courtesies, treating it as if you’re ordering from a robot. Russ was baffled and a bit embarrassed. “I use my pleases and thank yous in shops and everywhere else, but not at restaurants.” 🤷‍♂️

Russ has finally cracked the UK dining code and now ensures his p’s and q’s are ever-present at the dinner table. His candid confession charmed viewers, with many echoing that it’s high time we all embraced politeness, wherever we are. 👏

Some Americans chimed in, asserting they do use these simple courtesies back home. But for Russ, it’s a revelation and a lesson well-learned. 😊

So next time you’re dining across the pond, don’t forget: kindness is key. And maybe throw in an extra “thank you” for good measure. 😉🧾
