Hold onto your sunhats, folks! The UK is set to sizzle once again as the fourth heatwave of the summer rolls on. An amber heat health alert is in place for the West Midlands, East Midlands, South East, London, and East of England, with temperatures expected to soar to a blistering 34°C today. Yesterday, the mercury hit a toasty 33.4°C, with the hottest spots recorded in Benson, Oxfordshire, Ross-on-Wye, and Northolt, West London.
While we aren’t breaking the record for the hottest August day (38.5°C in Kent back in 2003), we’re certainly feeling the burn this week. Wednesday promises more sun-drenched skies, with a chance of some heavy and thundery showers in the South East and Scotland. Temperatures across England could still hit a sweltering 33°C to 34°C today.
Thursday might offer a slight reprieve as the heat eases a bit, but it’ll still be warm with highs around 29°C to 30°C in East and South East England. By Friday, we’ll see temperatures ramping up again in the South, brushing 31°C while Scotland enjoys a cooler clime in the low 20s.
