As a delayed flight to Lanzarote was preparing for departure, the steps were moved away from the aircraft while the door was still open, causing a gap. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) report revealed confusion over responsibility for checking whether the door was closed, highlighting flaws in the communication among the ground team. The report indicated that the steps were removed due to assumptions made by ramp staff, leading to this unfortunate accident. A dispatcher, who was also on the steps, managed to hold on and avoid a fall, shedding light on the critical lack of checks and balances.
