Flu season is upon us, and there’s good news for families in England! Starting Monday, children between 2 and 16 years old and expectant mothers can get their flu jabs as part of a major NHS rollout. For the first time, some areas are offering vaccinations to little ones aged 2-3 in nurseries. Most school kids can get theirs at school, but if you miss out, don’t worry—GPs and community clinics have got you covered!

Pregnant women are encouraged to get their flu shots during maternity appointments, while older adults, carers, and those in clinical risk groups can also book theirs via the NHS National Booking System. The aim? Keeping you and your loved ones safe and healthy as the cold weather approaches.

October’s rollout extends the flu jab to everyone aged 65 and up, as well as care home residents, carers, and certain healthcare workers. Plus, adults over 75 and people with weakened immune systems can get their COVID-19 vaccinations.
Dr Amanda Doyle from NHS England stresses the importance of these vaccines: “They are our best defence and can be lifesaving—especially over winter.” Last winter, the flu jab helped prevent over 100,000 hospitalisations. Health Minister Stephen Kinnock urges eligible families to get vaccinated ASAP to build defences before the virus peaks.
Flu and COVID vaccines are free for those at greatest risk, with easy access through local GPs, pharmacies, schools, and community clinics. Book your appointment today and give yourself peace of mind this winter—it could keep you out of hospital! Stay protected and help keep the pressure off the NHS. Stay healthy, folks!
