Exciting news from North Wales: plans to house asylum seekers at a former care home in Rhosllanerchrugog have been scrapped! The proposal aimed to accommodate up to 70 asylum seekers at Plas yn Rhos, which has been vacant since its closure in 2016. However, significant community concerns arose, and Wrexham Council, along with local residents, voiced strong objections.

The Home Office, through its housing contractor Clear Springs, initially eyed the facility for asylum accommodation, sparking worries about possible community tensions. But listening to the voices of the people, the plan has been officially dropped!

Wrexham Council’s leadership has been proactive; Councillor Mark Pritchard expressed relief over the decision, applauding the Home Office for listening and making what he believes is the right call. Deputy leader Councillor David A Bithell echoed this sentiment, expressing hopes that locals feel reassured with this outcome.
Chief Executive Alwyn Jones praised the collaborative effort of officers and councillors to prioritise the community’s interests. Similarly, Councillor Paul Roberts commended the Home Office for respecting the council and residents’ wishes by halting the process.
This development highlights the power of community voices and proactive local governance. A positive result for Rhosllanerchrugog and a testament to the impact of speaking out for local concerns! 🌟#CommunityPower #Wrexham #LocalNews #Rhosllanerchrugog #HomeOffice
