A troubling incident unfolded when Joshua Hopton showed up at his ex-partner’s home and made terrifying threats while their child was present. The 29-year-old, from Swansea, barged into the house uninvited, demanding to see his son and accusing his former partner of seeing someone else. The encounter escalated as he pushed her twice and threatened to kill her before leaving. Later that day, Hopton handed himself over to the police.

During a hearing at Swansea Crown Court, the victim shared how the incident had left her extremely nervous and anxious. The defence highlighted the emotionally charged nature of the situation, and Hopton apologised for his “poor behaviour.”

Recorder Simon Stephenson noted the seriousness of the situation, especially as children were present during the incident, acknowledging the general threatening behaviour exhibited by Hopton. For threatening to kill, he was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for 18 months. Additionally, he must complete 250 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation activities. He’s also under a restraining order to ensure no further contact with his victim.
