Luca Brecel, the former Snooker World Champion, is finally breaking his silence after months away from the spotlight. Known as ‘The Belgian Bullet’, Brecel took to Instagram to reveal the reason behind his mysterious absence from the game: health issues.
✨ Battling these challenges, he shared, “Me and my team are doing everything we can to come out of this stronger and better than before.” Despite missing out on several major tournaments, including the Wuhan and British Opens, Brecel remains optimistic. “Tough times often lead to something great!” he says.
His candid post comes months after his last appearance at the World Championship in Sheffield. Unfortunately, his health woes are keeping him in Belgium, away from tournament tables.
While the exact nature of his health struggles isn’t clear, it’s evident they’re significant enough to pause his career. Since his 2023 world champion title, things have been rocky for Brecel. Once ranked number two, his performance dips have seen him slide to 39th.
Fans and fellow players alike are eager to see him back, hopefully making a return at the Xi’an Grand Prix or Northern Ireland Open qualifiers next month. And who wouldn’t want to see him play? Snooker legend Steve Davis described Brecel as “the most jaw-dropping player” following his recent triumph over Ding Junhui.
