Meet Joyce Todd, the woman who once changed Keir Starmer’s mind on immigration. Back in 2016, Joyce had a conversation with Starmer, then the Shadow Immigration Minister, at her home in Oldham. Her frank views on immigration helped shape Labour’s stance, as Starmer realised “the left had got it wrong.”

Fast forward to today, and Joyce is no longer convinced by the Prime Minister’s words. Despite her Labour roots, Joyce feels let down. “I don’t believe a word he says,” she admits. Her disappointment grew after Labour’s latest immigration policies were unveiled, which include digital ID cards and stricter requirements for migrants.

Joyce recalls their initial meeting, where she shared her experiences living in a diverse neighbourhood. “I’m not racist,” she insists, highlighting how her community respects her and her family. However, following recent unrest and the party’s new announcements, Joyce’s faith in Labour has wavered. She admits she may never vote for them again.
While Labour promises to tackle illegal migration and reduce net numbers, Joyce remains sceptical. Is the government really going to deliver? Only time will tell. But for now, Joyce is holding her ground, questioning whether politicians will keep their promises. Stay tuned for more on this developing story!
