A local groundskeeper’s decision to drive after a few too many turned into quite the spectacle on a Cardiff road! Craig Morgan, who’s part of the Rhondda Cynon Taf team, had his night end with a bang—literally.
On September 1st, Morgan’s Peugeot 107 had an unfortunate meeting with a kerb near the bustling Culverhouse Cross roundabout. The twist? He was more than double the legal alcohol limit and had an open bottle of Corona beer in the car.
When police arrived, it was clear Morgan wasn’t in his best form—stumbling and smelling like he’d had one too many. Upon breathalysing, he registered 72mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. Considering the limit is just 35mcg, that’s quite an over-the-limit situation! 🚔🍺
His solicitor revealed how a funeral-turned-wake earlier in Bridgend led to his lapse in judgment. But alas, the law doesn’t take kindly to repeat offenders; Morgan previously faced charges in 2018 for drug-driving.
At Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, Justice Lisa Gerson handed him a hefty 40-month driving ban, which could be reduced if he completes a drink-driving course. Financially, he’s looking at a ÂŁ400 fine, plus additional charges.
This incident left Morgan’s job with Rhondda Cynon Taf hanging in the balance, as driving occasionally crops up in his role.
