A dream holiday with Tui turned into a nightmare for Ryan Mendelson after an unexpected attack by a hotel worker left him in need of surgery. While enjoying his stay at the Hotel RIU Touraeg, Ryan was suddenly kneed in the leg by a member of the entertainment staff. “I fell to the floor like a sack of potatoes,” he said, describing the shock of the “unprovoked assault.”

The incident, which happened on the penultimate day of his two-week holiday, resulted in Ryan needing medical attention and surgery back in the UK. Initially, Ryan’s family faced additional hotel charges and costs for medical treatment amounting to 860 Euros, but they fought back, threatening to go public with their ordeal.

Ryan’s experience highlights the importance of knowing your rights as a holidaymaker. Thankfully, with the help of legal support, Ryan secured £18,000 in compensation. But the mishandling of the incident by Tui and the hotel didn’t go unnoticed. Ryan criticised Tui’s response as “scatty” and “dismissive,” pointing out the importance of clear boundaries and better customer care.
