🚨Heartbreaking News Alert🚨

A tragic accident has claimed the young life of baby Ayan Sediqi, just seven months old, after the car he was in hit a patch of ice on the A1. The ice was caused by a blocked drainage pipe leading to water freezing on the road, an inquest revealed. This devastating incident has led a coroner to warn of potential future tragedies if action isn’t taken swiftly.
On the night of January 2, 2025, a blocked pipe allowed water to flow over both lanes of the carriageway, freezing due to the cold weather. As Ayan’s family drove home, their car hit the ice while overtaking another vehicle and crashed, resulting in horrific injuries for little Ayan.

Coroner Jayne Wilkes has issued a Prevention of Future Deaths report, urging immediate measures to prevent such incidents from occurring again. Reports and dashcam footage from numerous individuals indicated that the hazardous conditions had existed since at least the afternoon of the accident, with several drivers noting the danger.
Shockingly, no reports of the icy conditions or water flow were made to authorities either on the day of the incident or the preceding months. Coroner Wilkes stressed the lack of public awareness on how and where to report such road hazards, a vital step to ensuring road safety for everyone.

The responsibility for maintaining this stretch of the A1 falls to National Highways, who have expressed their deep condolences to Ayan’s family and confirmed they are reviewing the coroner’s report for further action.
It’s a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the tragic consequences that can arise from overlooked maintenance issues. Share this story to raise awareness and keep our roads safe for everyone.
