A heart-breaking case of betrayal unfolded recently as Jason Price, 28, was found guilty of defrauding his own father to the tune of over £14,000 while he was hospitalised after a stroke. Using his father’s phone, Jason transferred the money to his own account and made multiple cash withdrawals. His suspicious activities caught the attention of his aunt, who discovered the deceit and found the phone had been wiped clean. Raymond Price, the victim, expressed feeling utterly betrayed by what he described as “the ultimate breach of trust.”

Jason admitted he was driven by chaos in his life, including struggles with a gambling and cocaine addiction. He pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation at Newport Crown Court. Despite having a past conviction, Jason is reportedly making strides in his rehabilitation journey, having been clean for nine months.

The court sentenced him to 14 months imprisonment, suspended for 14 months. He’s also required to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and a 15-day rehabilitation activity. Additionally, a five-year restraining order was placed to protect his father. Although Raymond has been reimbursed by the bank, the emotional toll of the betrayal lingers. The judge sternly reminded Jason of the shame in exploiting his father’s vulnerability. Let’s hope he continues on a path of rehabilitation and makes amends for his past.
