Tragedy struck at Witton Country Park in Blackburn as a brave mum, Madia Kauser, lost her life while heroically saving her young daughter from a falling tree branch. The family was on a leisurely stroll when Madia noticed the danger, pushing her 5-year-old to safety. Despite the valiant efforts of emergency crews, Madia was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband, Wasim Khan, who was nearby playing football with their son, recounted the horrifying moment: “I heard a crack and the tree just came down. There was no wind, nothing.” The incident occurred around 8:30 PM, close to the park’s Buncer Lane entrance.

The council immediately cordoned off the area and removed the tree, with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council expressing deep condolences to the family. Officials have highlighted the importance of park safety and are undertaking thorough inspections to prevent future incidents. Local councillors have voiced concerns over tree health in the area, emphasising the need for regular checks due to issues like ash dieback disease.
This heartbreaking event has sent ripples through the community, with many offering support to the grieving family. As the investigation continues, let’s keep Madia’s family in our thoughts, cherishing her selfless act of bravery and love.
