In a surprising rescue, a hiker caught in Storm Amy’s fury on Tryfan, one of Wales’ trickiest peaks, found mountain weather far harsher than expected. With gusts raging at 86mph, he was spotted wearing just shorts, candidly admitting, “The weather didn’t look that bad.” Thankfully, the brave Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team were fast on the scene, battling fierce winds to reach him. They safely lowered him down using ropes after providing some much-needed warm gear.
Known for its perilous paths, Tryfan sadly saw two fatalities last year and another this year, highlighting the risks of underestimating mountain conditions. This incident has sparked a fresh call for hikers to double-check weather forecasts and be flexible with their plans. The mountains will still be there when the skies are friendlier!
