Exciting plans are afoot in Cardigan! The iconic Grade II-listed Highbury House Hotel might soon be transformed into trendy flats. Last year, Wells Jones, the mastermind behind popular local spots like The Cliff Hotel & Spa, got the council’s green light to convert this historic gem nestled in Cardigan’s conservation area.

Originally designed by the renowned John Nash in the late 18th century, these buildings have seen quite the transformation over the years—from townhouses to a children’s home! The latest proposal aims to convert them into seven stylish flats, preserving their rich history while giving them a modern touch. It promises minimal changes inside, maintaining the charm of the 1790s structure.

This isn’t Wells Jones’s first rodeo with historic buildings! He’s also been busy working on the Grade-II-listed Black Lion Hotel in Cardigan, a building with its own fascinating past. With these projects, Cardigan is getting a fantastic mix of historic preservation and modern living!
Stay tuned for more updates as county planners review the proposed amendments to the Highbury House plans. Exciting times ahead for this lovely town!
