Historic Tavern’s Closure Leaves Locals in Disbelief

Sad news for Llantrisant! The historic Cross Keys pub, which has been a local fixture since the 18th century, is set to be transformed. After closing its doors last January, plans have been approved to convert the beloved watering hole into a combination of a retail store, office, and a self-contained flat.

This decision has stirred quite the debate in our community. With 262 objections lodged against the change, it’s clear many locals are keen to preserve this piece of our heritage. However, the Rhondda Cynon Taf Council found the transformation necessary, considering there are still several other pubs in the area.

The nostalgia runs deep as this venue held one of its earliest licences way back in 1791. The change comes amidst a similar transformation in nearby Llanharry, where The Fox and Hounds faced a similar fate, now converted from a pub to a shop despite community objections.
