π¨ Stay alert! Measles cases are on the rise in England! Dr Pallavi Bradshaw urges everyone, especially students, to check their vaccination status. π₯β¨

Why? Because measles isn’t just about that itchy red rash. There are EIGHT sneaky symptoms to watch for 2-4 days before the rash appears. Recognising these early can stop the virus in its tracks! π‘
1. Cold-like symptoms π€§
2. Watery, red, swollen eyes π

3. High temperature π‘οΈ
4. Tiny greyish-white spots in the mouth π

5. Muscle pain πͺ
6. Loss of appetite π₯
7. Fatigue π΄
8. Barky cough π€
Seen any of these symptoms? Ring your GP straight away but avoid those crowded spots! Measles spreads through coughs and sneezes and can linger in the air for hours. π·
If you or someone you know has measles, hereβs what to do:
– Contact your GP ASAP β call first! π
– Stay put at home or in your accommodation π
– Keep away from campus or public places π«
– Rest up and hydrate π§
– Dim the lights if possible π‘
What about preventing measles altogether? π The solution’s simple: the MMR vaccine. Ensure youβve had your two doses. If unsure, have a chat with your GP about getting vaccinated. π©Ί
Measles might last 10-14 days without complications, so the sooner you spot the symptoms, the better. Look after yourselves and others β stay informed, stay protected! β€οΈ
