Heartbreak in Whitby as Two Beloved Grandmothers Named After Tragic Cliff Falls 💔

It is with heavy hearts that we share the names of two wonderful women who recently lost their lives in a tragic sequence of events at Whitby cliffs. Joan Blanchon, aged 69, and Susan Fawcett, aged 58, were both found deceased after separate falls within days of each other at this serene coastal location. They were two of four people who lost their lives in a span of just five days.

Joan was discovered near the Pavilion on 31st July, while Susan was found near Sandsend on 2nd August. Sadly, just before these tragedies, David and Susan Jeffcock also died in a devastating fall on 30th July.
Families of Joan and Susan have penned touching tributes, remembering them as dearly loved and deeply missed. Joan’s family misses her warmth and kindness, highlighting her role as a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Susan’s family describes her as a beloved wife, mother, granny, and daughter, creating cherished memories that her loved ones hold close in their hearts.
Heartfelt messages have poured in from friends and colleagues. Nicola Monk reminisced about shared spa breaks and delicious home-baked treats, and Russell Galey fondly remembered Susan’s infectious laugh and smile during their 22 years of working together.
North Yorkshire Police have confirmed there are no links between the individual tragedies, yet each loss is profoundly felt in the community. Our thoughts and condolences go out to all the families and friends during this painful time. 🌸
