Imagine going through life with constant, unexplained pain—and being told it’s all in your head. That’s what happened to Emma from Dudley, West Midlands, who began experiencing chronic pain at just 8 years old. At 14, she underwent her first surgery, and since then, she’s had an astounding 35 procedures to manage her condition, interstitial cystitis, known as painful bladder syndrome.

At one point, doctors told Emma she ‘should be dead’. But this incredible woman has defied the odds again and again. From having her bladder, uterus, and cervix removed to dealing with endometriosis, Emma’s journey has been nothing short of gruelling. Yet, she’s found a silver lining!

Despite these challenges, Emma hasn’t let life pass her by. She’s met the love of her life through an online platform for people with stomas and has discovered a passion for pole dancing. 💃 This January, she bravely took up pole dancing classes, where she found a supportive community and regained her confidence. “It’s an amazing place…it’s given me my self-confidence back,” she shares.

Emma hopes her story inspires others, especially those with stomas or disabilities. She passionately encourages everyone to “embrace their bags.” They’re part of us, and they’re life-savers. Emma shows us that no matter the circumstances, we can live our dreams. 🚀
