**Shocking Vandalism in Maesteg:** A 19-year-old has been charged after swastikas were found plastered across Maesteg. The offensive symbols appeared on buildings, including a bus shelter, on September 9th. Thomas Jones has been charged with three counts of racially/religiously aggravated criminal damage and is set to appear in Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on November 13th.
Local leaders are voicing their concerns. Labour Councillor Martin Hughes called it an “alarming situation” and urged for quick repainting to restore the town’s image. Meanwhile, Councillor Abedalkarim Fadhel expressed his frustration on social media, criticising the actions of “small-minded individuals” who mar the reputation of the town they take pride in.
These acts of vandalism, he noted, cost public money, ruin our community spaces, and do no good for anyone.
