Tragedy struck HMP Exeter as an inmate is accused of murdering fellow prisoner, Steven Kempster. James Desborough, 39, has been charged with killing 65-year-old Kempster after an incident in the prison on 15th September. At his brief court appearance, Desborough only confirmed his name and date of birth. He’s now set to appear at Exeter Crown Court next month, with hearings continuing on 19th September.

Devon and Cornwall Police reported Kempster was found dead in his cell early Monday morning. Senior Crown Prosecutor Helen Phillips confirmed there’s solid evidence against Desborough, noting the public interest in pursuing this case. The investigation continues as the community awaits justice for Kempster.
