At Penybont Primary, a high council purchasing card expenditure raised eyebrows, while Maesteg School hadn’t had an independent audit of its private fund for two years! Plus, there were missing cash records and some newcomers started without complete checks in place. 😳

Good news, though! Both schools are on the case. Penybont Primary has already checked off 11 out of 14 medium-priority recommendations, including new safeguarding training. They’ve also fine-tuned their spending practices to align better with other schools. 🛒

Meanwhile, Maesteg School has knocked out 10 of 12 recommendations and crafted a new financial procedure guide, awaiting approval soon! 📘

Councillor Ross Penhale-Thomas expressed optimism, noting positive outcomes and the schools’ receptiveness to further audits. Both head teachers are welcoming future visits, slated for later this year, to ensure everything’s tip-top. 🏫

Stay tuned as the council plans to revisit Maesteg by October 31 and Penybont Primary by December 31, 2025. More updates are coming on how these schools continue to improve and address concerns. #BridgendSchools #CommunityUpdate #EducationMatters
