**Murder Investigation Launched Following Fatal Stabbing of 14-Year-Old Boy in Manchester**

A 14-year-old boy has tragically died following a stabbing incident in the New Moston district of north Manchester, prompting police to open a murder investigation. Authorities were alerted to the serious event shortly after 5pm on Sunday, with emergency services rushing to the Nevin Road area where the teenager was found critically injured.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have confirmed that the boy was discovered suffering from stab wounds and, despite rapid intervention from both ambulance crews and an air ambulance team, he passed away after being transferred to hospital. News of the attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing deep sorrow and concern about rising youth violence.

In the immediate aftermath, officers moved quickly to identify individuals potentially linked to the attack. Two male youths, aged 14 and 16, were detained on suspicion of murder later that evening. In addition, a 14-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All four individuals are currently being questioned in police custody as investigations progress.
Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, who is leading the inquiry, described it as a “horrific incident”, acknowledging that both those directly affected and witnesses are likely to be extremely distressed. “This tragic event has left the local community shocked and saddened,” he said. “We are deploying extensive resources and assigning specialised officers to this investigation, which has enabled us to swiftly identify and arrest several suspects.”

Police have established multiple cordons in and around the scene as forensic teams continue to gather evidence. A visible police presence remains in the area to reassure residents and assist the ongoing investigation. Officers have begun house-to-house enquiries and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward, especially those who may have CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the vicinity during the crucial hours.
“We are determined to provide answers for the boy’s family and hold those responsible to account,” added DCI Charlton. The family of the deceased is currently receiving support from specially trained officers during what is expected to be a difficult and protracted investigation.
While arrests have been made, detectives have stressed that the inquiry remains very much ‘live’, with numerous lines of enquiry being pursued. Members of the public are being encouraged to assist the investigation by reporting anything they saw or may know, no matter how minor it might seem. Information can be relayed directly to police via 101, or anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers.
This latest incident has reignited local debates about the persistent issue of knife crime in urban areas. Community leaders and local groups have expressed their condolences to the victim’s family, and there are renewed calls for greater efforts to tackle youth violence, improve safety, and provide more support for at-risk young people.
Greater Manchester Police have promised regular updates will be given to both the family and the wider community as new information emerges. Residents have been reminded to contact emergency services using 999 in urgent situations, and to utilise online reporting tools for non-urgent information sharing.
As the investigation continues, GMP are urging calm and cooperation, emphasising that their priority is to ensure justice is served while also safeguarding the wellbeing of the community. The fatal stabbing has become a sombre reminder of the challenges faced by many communities addressing youth violence and the devastating impact it can have on lives.
