🚗🔦 Bright headlights blinding you on the roads? You’re not alone!

A recent survey reveals that more than half of UK drivers feel the glare from oncoming headlights is becoming a bigger problem. In fact, a whopping 57% of drivers think it has worsened over the past year! As many as 32% experience this dazzling effect regularly, leaving them less confident behind the wheel.

These intense beams, often from modern bi-xenon or LED headlights, are meant to improve visibility for drivers but can blind others as they pass. Around 51% of dazzled drivers struggle to spot hazards or road markings, and 42% find it hard to judge speeds and distances of oncoming traffic. Scary, right?

The discussion on this glaring issue is heating up, with calls for government action. The RAC and road safety advocates are pushing for research into vehicle height and headlight colour as part of a comprehensive road safety strategy.
In the meantime, simple tips like wearing prescription glasses if needed, keeping your lights clean, and checking their angle could help reduce glare. The Department for Transport is investigating these dazzling issues, including cracking down on illegal headlamp bulb sales.
