Former Rangers player Josh Windass has been open about his thoughts on Wrexham team-mate James McClean, known for his strong opinions on football and beyond. Windass, who joined Wrexham after a stint at Sheffield Wednesday, hasn’t been shy to defend McClean, despite the latter’s often controversial reputation.
McClean, who has been vital in Wrexham’s back-to-back promotions, faced criticism after calling Arsenal’s Declan Rice “very overrated” on an Irish channel. Windass reacted to the backlash by supporting McClean’s right to express his honest views. Although Windass disagreed with McClean’s assessment of Rice, he appreciated the candidness.
Much like McClean, Windass is no stranger to speaking his mind. He drew attention when criticising former Sheffield Wednesday youth player Joey Phuthi, comparing his work rate unfavourably to Messi’s. Despite their outspoken natures, both Windass and McClean bring passion and skill to the pitch.
