Sad news from Wales as Hefin David, the much-respected Senedd Member for Caerphilly, has passed away suddenly at the age of 47. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has expressed his deep sorrow, describing Hefin as a “dedicated and committed” public servant, whose voice resonated powerfully for the people of Wales. With a career in the Senedd starting in 2016, Hefin was known for his unwavering pride in his roots, serving his community with a passionate spirit.
Tributes have been pouring in from both Cardiff Bay and Westminster, highlighting the impact Hefin had on those around him. His partner, Vicki Howells, also a Labour MS, and their two daughters, are in the thoughts of many during this difficult time.
Reflecting on his character, First Minister Eluned Morgan praised Hefin as an outstanding politician and a warm communicator, who served Caerphilly with channelled passion. There’s no doubt he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
According to Gwent Police, they responded to a medical emergency at an address in Nelson, where Hefin was found unresponsive. Despite swift assistance from the Welsh Ambulance Service, he sadly could not be saved. Authorities have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the coroner.
