ποΈ King Charles Speaks on VJ Day Anniversary π¬π§

This morning, King Charles delivered a heartfelt audio message to mark the 80th anniversary of VJ Day. His thoughtful words honoured the brave souls of WWII who fought in the Pacific and Far East, ensuring their legacy lives on. π

Remembering that pivotal day, the King echoed the relief his grandfather King George VI brought 80 years ago with just four words: “The war is over.” Today, we commemorate those who served and the hefty sacrifices they made.
Highlighting the leadership of his great uncle, Lord Mountbatten, and the steadfast efforts of Allied forces, King Charles praised the unity of over a million men and women. They spanned countries and cultures but stood together with an indomitable spirit. The titles of 29 Victoria Crosses speak volumes of their valour, yet the King reminded us of the unseen scars carried by survivors.
He paid tribute to the “Forgotten Army” and recognised the fearless pilots who soared above enemy lines. The King also solemnly remembered the POWs and civilians who endured unimaginable hardships.
Reflecting on Hiroshima and Nagasaki’s tragic legacy, he urged for a future where such a price need never be paid again. Despite the suffering, he celebrated the sweet victory that brought us freedom.
King Charles invoked the spirit of collaboration across borders, faiths, and cultures β lessons as relevant today as they were then. As we reflect on this monumental day, he calls for us to uphold the values passed down and remember the courage that lights our path forward.
In a poignant close, he reminded us of the Kohima epitaph: βWhen You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.β π
Let’s honour their sacrifice by keeping their spirit alive in our hearts. β€οΈ #VJDay #NeverForgotten #Unity #KingCharles
