π¨π Urgent Beach Alert! ππ¨

As ex-Hurricane Erin hits the Welsh coast, lifeguards are sounding the alarm. After weeks of glorious sunshine, the storm is crashing in, bringing some of the biggest waves we’ve seen this year! If you’re thinking about hitting the beach, hold that thought. ποΈ
RNLI lifeguards in North Pembrokeshire report that “Hurricane Erin has hit,” and the swells are massive! With a few beaches already flagged red, it’s a stark reminder of nature’s power. Those big waves mean rip currents could be super strong, making swimming risky.

Beaches currently marked with a red flag include:
π© Poppit Sands
π© Whitesands

π© Newgale
π© Nolton Haven
Newport Sands and Broad Haven are open for now, but conditions can change rapidly. Lifeguards are urging: “Stay dry, stay safe.”
π What’s a Rip Current?
Rip currents are fast, narrow water channels rushing back to sea. They can pull even the strongest swimmers way out, making them panic. But don’t worry, they won’t drag you under.
πββοΈ Caught in a Rip?
1. Stay calm β don’t fight it.
2. Swim parallel to shore until clear.
3. If tired, float or tread water, and signal for help.
James Instance from HM Coastguard warns: “With high tides coming, risks rise.” The last thing you want is to end your beach day in danger β especially with kiddos in tow!
So, as this wild weather marks a soggy end to the school holidays, remember: the sea’s more powerful than it looks. Keep a lookout, follow advice, and letβs keep the fun safe! ππ¦
