The marquee, originally set up in 2020 during the pandemic, has been a true lifesaver, helping the pub thrive in tough times by providing space for live music, community events, and more. While Swansea Council initially turned down their request, the appeal was successfully upheld by a Welsh Government-appointed inspector. Becky Floyd, the pub’s landlady, shared her joy about the ruling, emphasising how the marquee has become essential for the community hub’s success. She also revealed plans for “a shiny new one” to debut this spring!
Locals and visitors alike see The Railway Inn, registered since 1864, as a cornerstone of Swansea’s real ale scene. In fact, it was even named Swansea Camra’s pub of the year in 2025. With a lovely and lively atmosphere, it’s no wonder more than 90 people rallied behind the appeal.
On a recent visit, pub-goers expressed their delight. Julie Davies raved about how perfect the marquee is for music sessions, while another regular shared that it’s a favourite spot for all. The marquee also conveniently runs alongside a popular shared-use path from Blackpill to Gowerton, making it a cosy stop for walkers and cyclists.
