🚧 A Bit of a Blunder in Ammanford! 🚧

Big news from Carmarthenshire – the council’s been caught in a bit of an embarrassing mix-up! Plans for a new bus park at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman, which replaces the current cramped space on Margaret Street, hit a snag when it was revealed some work had already started without permission. 🚌

Despite the hiccup, all’s not lost! The council’s planning committee has gone ahead and approved the application to create space for 13 coaches, aiming to ease the notorious congestion in the area. Five majestic trees on the site will be saved, and there’s even a promise of a net biodiversity gain with some fresh planting and a wildlife-friendly pond. 🌳🐸
Councillor John James didn’t shy away from calling out the council’s misstep, labelling the situation as “embarrassing.” Yet, even with the dodgy start, the promise of improved safety and reduced traffic won the day. 🚦
Many locals raised concerns about losing the green space and the lack of consultation. Still, planning officer John Thomas insists that the safety of students must take priority. With separate drainage approvals given and a new soakaway system on the way, it seems like it’s full steam ahead for the project!
It was a unanimous vote in favour of moving forward, with Cllr Terry Davies highlighting communication gaps but backing the plan, and Cllr Dorian Phillips pointing to successes from similar projects in Whitland. With over 1,500 students at the school, the need for a smoother traffic flow is clear. ✅
