Local Residents Encouraged as New Homeowners Come Up With Alternative Solutions to Gated Pathway

In the heart of Cwmparc, a little pathway drama has got everyone talking! Earlier this year, new homeowners caused a stir by installing massive gates that blocked a beloved path leading to the picturesque Rhondda mountainside. Walkers, cyclists, dog owners, and school kids were all caught off guard, sparking a local outcry that led to the epic ‘GateGate’ campaign. After 100 days of community spirit and determination, those controversial gates finally came down in June, thanks to a council enforcement notice.

But the story doesn’t end there! The homeowners, Adam and Laura Drew, are back with fresh plans, aiming to enhance security with 8ft composite fencing around the path and their property. The new plans, which have stirred up fresh conversations, also propose removing some shipping containers and undergrowth to make room for new hardstanding.

Interestingly, the council had found a temporary red hardstanding path created to bypass the initial gates unsatisfactory, leading to their removal. Local voices are buzzing once more, especially since work seems to have already started even before getting the green light! Andrew RT Davies, a Conservative Senedd member, has chimed in with concerns about the retrospective nature of the application.

The application is up for public consultation until Wednesday, November 12, and does not include plans to reinstall any obstructive gates. Will the new fencing plans usher in peace or spark another village debate? Only time will tell. Share your thoughts in the comments below! 📷🌳
