🚐🌊 Feeling the summer surge? Gwynedd locals are raising concerns as their cherished beach spots and scenic lay-bys are swarmed by motorhomes and campervans. With a noticeable rise in inconsiderate parking, many residents fear their beloved areas are turning into no-go zones.

This summer has brought specific challenges with an influx of tourists opting for free overnight spots over paid campsites, leading to clutter, rubbish, and blocked access points. “Why pay when you can park for free?” seems to be the attitude, much to the locals’ frustration. One local voiced it all: seeing 50+ campers by the beach, dodging overnight fees, and turning a blind eye to littering.
The introduction of dedicated ‘arosfan’ sites in places like Y Glyn near Llyn Padarn seemed promising, yet their use remains low with only a handful of takers. Locals argue that these spots, priced reasonably, are ignored in favour of free roadside parking — a situation further worsened by minimal enforcement.

In Llanberis, tensions soared when only one motorhome used the designated site while 25 occupied the entrance road without charge. “Something must change,” urged the residents, suggesting permits for locals and stricter fines for offenders.

The council is stepping up this summer, promising fines for irresponsible parking which blocks emergency service routes. They’re urging tourists to utilise the planned arosfan locations to avoid clutter and fines, especially as another heatwave approaches.
While officials are looking to expand facilities and offer better solutions long term, the immediate need for respect and responsible use of Gwynedd’s stunning landscapes remains crucial. Whether it’s enjoying the breathtaking sunsets near Caernarfon airport or the serene beauty of Llanberis, let’s all do our bit to keep these treasures intact for everyone! 🌅✨
